This Week In Crypto
Sam Bankman-Fried, former CEO of FTX, conducts wild interviews with media despite his lawyer’s instructions to stop - In the aftermath of FTX’s bankruptcy - where billions of dollars of customer funds have been lost - SBF is on a media tour.
Some highlights from the NYT Dealbook Summit and the GMA interviews:
SBF says the collapse of FTX was a risk management problem (genius!)
SBF claims all FTX US customers could be made whole right now (really?)
SBF denied knowingly commingling funds between Alameda and FTX (lol)
He blamed an accounting error for Alameda likely transferring their risk over to FTX (an accounting error, you read that correctly)
More tough viewing below. WARNING: could make you more angry.
BlackRock, the world's largest asset manager, lost millions of dollars on FTX. In this video the CEO alludes to “misbehaviours of major consequences” and how they may have been “misled”. So don’t beat yourself up too hard - even the smartest people were fooled. (Or the smart people are not so smart either…)
Uniswap, a major decentralised exchange, has integrated NFTs - Uniswap has switched on NFT trading as the battle for NFT market volume continues. To attract people to the platform, they gave historical users $300 each if they met certain conditions. (Wohoo I got some - if you are interested in airdrops like this follow my company @airdropszn)
Phantom, a Solana wallet, adding Ethereum and Polygon support - Solana has been hit hard by the FTX crash. FTX / Alameda were huge Solana backers. Phantom was the main wallet for Solana users, but looks like they want to attract Eth and Polygon users too. Should be useful!
2. This Week In NFT World
RTFKT dropped $1,500 Eggs to Clone-X holders - RTFKT, purchased by Nike last year, gave NFT eggs to their holders. You can see them trading here for approx. $1,500. Think these are going to hatch and spawn some new characters…
Zancan sells $881,000 of Landscape with Carbon Capture on Verse - 8,811 editions of this open edition have been sold at primary sale, and the secondary market has also done 202 ETH ($260,000) of volume. It’s a beautiful collection, but different to some open editions, because each piece is actually unique. See some of the variety, collected by my friend Toni Marinara.
Frank and Gmoney doxx - Two huge personalities and contributors to this space doxxed this week in Miama. Gmoney is a prominent collector, investor and founder of luxury fashion house, 9dcc. Frank is the creator of DeGods and yOOts. You may wonder: is this relevant? The answer: yes. yOOts, Frank’s NFT collection, pumped on the news!
Thought of the Week
AI is doing crazy things right now and has the potential to disrupt a lot of workplaces. For independent thinkers and creators online, we must start considering how to harness the technology.
Here is one such example for writing:
The ability to provide poorly drafted information to AI and have it transformed and returned to you instantly as well drafted information is world/life-changing.
Check out this funny example below. (There are more amazing examples in the thread.)
I will be working with this tech in the next couple of weeks to see how I can use it.
If we can’t beat the robots, we might just have to join them.
