This Week In NFT/Crypto World - Luxury and Pain
Mercedes sell out their debut 1,000 NFT collection
Mercedes partnered with the prestigious Fingerprints DAO and prominent artist Harm van den Dorpel to create a 1,000 piece collection inspired by ‘motion, velocity and perception.’
They sold out for 0.24 ETH ($440) - and are trading for a similar price on the secondary market.
This is a great example of a more thoughtful entrance by a traditional company into the web3 space.
This week LV announced their entrance into NFTs…but not in the way others before them have tried.
They are opting for a “soul-bound token” - which means that the buyer of the NFT cannot trade the NFT - only they can own it.
There will only be “a few hundred” - and the treasure trunk NFT will come with a matching, made to order physical trunk.
In addition, the tokens will unlock “exclusive products and experiences”.
In that respect, these might, just might be worth it as they unlock additional access ON TOP OF the underlying physical product (which routinely sell for tens of thousands of dollars anyway.)
SEC files complaints against…everyone?
Binance and Coinbase both had complaints filed against them this week by Mr Gary Gensler, the Chair of the SEC.
Both entities were (amongst other things) charged with operating unregistered national securities exchanges.
Binance explicitly so - as this quote from a compliance officer was unearthed…
What do I think about this?
We have discussed this at length over the last months. It seems that the establishment in the US is hellbent on attacking crypto (so it will likely be forced offshore/abroad).
Though it seems that crypto has developed some resilience at these prices.
And Gensler allegedly offered to serve Binance as an advisor in 2019
According to a new filing from Binance’s lawyers, Gary Gensler offered to be an advisor to the crypto exchange in 2019.
Though Gensler was not in his current position at the time - he was a teacher at a management school - this is still pretty funny.
Especially because Gensler was recently very cozy with SBF (the disgraced former CEO of the collapsed exchange, FTX).
What does the internet think? If Binance (and/or Coinbase) had just paid him…
Sponsored Post - Lil Nouns Sponsors $0.5M Proposal
The Lil Nouns DAO has sponsored a $496,000 proposal by Artmatr to fabricate 1,001 Nouns using custom robots and software.
So how did Lil Nouns DAO help Artmatr with their proposal to try to get this cutting-edge physical art into the hands of holders?
The Lil Nouns DAO sponsored the proposal - you need to have 2 Nouns to even submit a proposal to the Nouns DAO (which has over 28,000 ETH in its treasury). Lil Nouns DAO has the Nouns to support quality teams and proposals.
Extensive feedback and dialogue with those experienced in the Nouns universe - The Nouns ecosystem is complex. The amount of knowledge and wisdom in the Lil Nouns DAO proved super helpful to Artmatr, who said “having a group of people with extensive experience in the Nouns ecosystem to pitch ideas and get feedback was invaluable to improving the proposal.”
Voting power - With 17 Nouns, Lil Nouns were able to support the proposal when it came time to vote - giving Artmatr a strong start to their vote.
The vote for Armatr is live now. We wish them the best!
If you are curious about contributing to a cutting-edge DAO and getting paid to bring your ideas to life:

Creator Corner - Apple Vision Pro Will Change Your Life
The Apple headset announcement at the start of this week set the internet’s imagination on fire.
My instinctive take: Minority Report is here.
Here are 9 ways I think this changes your life (and mine!)
First ever spatial operating system - Apple ecosystem layered on top of your reality
Eye tracking and selection- no controllers; selection via eyes; pinch motion with two fingers to confirm selections - and voice integrated too
Unlimited by space - You can watch a 4k screen that is as big as you want
First ever 3D camera - capture photos and videos in “remarkable depth”
Bring in completely different environments - want to watch a movie in a forest instead of an airplane with a baby crying next to you? Done
Arrange apps however you like and work across them - this is going to be so useful to me and my million tabs writing my daily snapshot on Twitter and this weekly newsletter. Also - no need for a real screen - or desk anymore(!)
Turn your laptop into a huge screen - another thing that is going to explode productivity.
Engineered a system using advanced machine learning to represent you realistically when you are in FaceTime - this is just nuts - you don’t have to look into a camera - it’s going to map your expressions to people in real time (!)
So it seems really great - any negatives?
Two that I can see.
(i) Battery Pack gets you only 2 hours (with a USB-C port which can plug into mains) - and it doesn’t look that comfortable
(ii) Cost - $3,500 - that’s expensive. Very expensive.
Nevertheless - pretty excited at this glimpse of the future.
Hope that was helpful.
Have a great day,
B
